Vietnam Memorial
The Texas State Cemetery honored all Texas veterans of the Vietnam War by unveiling a monument on its grounds on April 19, 2008. The monument, the first honoring Vietnam veterans at the Cemetery, is crafted of grey and black granite and is topped by a bronze sculpture by artist Gilbert Beall. The monument honors veterans from all branches of service who served during the Vietnam War.
Lt. General Jefferson Davis Howell, USMC (Ret.), was the keynote speaker at the ceremony and spoke of his experiences during the Vietnam War. Governor Rick Perry gave remarks on his own military service as well. A veteran enlisted man, an officer and a nurse also spoke at the unveiling.
