The War of 1812 Monument honors veterans of that war who later settled in Texas and helped found the Republic of Texas.
The War of 1812 Monument was dedicated in 2001 by the Texas Society United States Daughters of 1812. The monument honors the veterans of the War of 1812 that are said to have rendered loyal service in establishing the Republic of Texas.
Many veterans of that war eventually migrated to Texas and became prominent figures in the War for Texas Independence and are now buried at the Texas State Cemetery. Edward Burleson, the first person buried at the Cemetery, was a private during the War of 1812, fought at the Battle of San Jacinto and was later elected Vice President of the Republic of Texas in 1841.
