The Gold Star Mothers Monument
The Gold Star Mothers Memorial was dedicated at the Texas State Cemetery in 2001. It honors mothers who lost children in service to the United States military.
The Gold Star Mothers Monument honors American mothers who lost sons or daughters in service of the United States Armed Forces. The memorial was erected in 2001 and was unveiled while the Traveling Vietnam Wall was on display at the Cemetery.
The name Gold Star Mothers originated from the service flag that family members could display when a relative was at war. While serving, the flag is a white field with a single blue star. If the soldier is killed during military operations, the blue star is replaced by gold.
