The Texas Armed Forces Memorial Flagpole
The Texas Armed Forces Memorial Flagpole is shown with the Texas flag at full staff in the center of the Cemetery. When a Texan is killed in a combat zone, the flag is flown at half-staff.
The Texas Armed Forces Flagpole is located in the center of the military monument section of the Texas State Cemetery. Senate Bill 2135, enacted during the 81st Regular Legislative Session in 2009, directed the Cemetery to erect a flagpole and display the Texas flag at half-staff whenever a Texan is killed in a combat zone.
In addition to marking Texan military deaths, the flagpole flies the “Honor and Remember Flag” on certain dates throughout the year honoring military veterans and their families. The “Honor and Remember Flag” was conceived in 2005 following the death of an American serviceman in Iraq.
