Monuments at the Texas State Cemetery
The Texas State Cemetery is home to several monuments and memorials that commemorate people and events in Texas history. We encourage visitors to walk the grounds and learn about the lives and legacies of those honored here.
Texas Medal of Honor Memorial
The first monument at the Texas State Cemetery to honor a large group of people in the modern era is the Medal of Honor Monument, which serves as a focal point in the center of the Cemetery grounds. This monument was installed in 1999 and since then, many other monuments have joined it to honor Texans who served the state through military or civic service.
September 11, 2001 Monument
The September 11, 2001 Monument at the Texas State Cemetery features two steel columns from the World Trade Center Ground Zero site in New York.
The War of 1812 Monument
Located on Republic Hill, the War of 1812 Monument honors men who fought in that war who eventually settled in Texas.
The 19th-Century Black Legislators Monument
The 19th Century Black Legislators Monument honors fifty-two African American men who either served in the Texas Legislature or the Constitutional Convention during the Reconstruction era in Texas.

The Texas Armed Forces Memorial Flagpole
The Texas Armed Forces Memorial Flagpole at full staff in the center of the Cemetery. When a Texan is killed in a combat zone, the flag is flown at half-staff.
The Gold Star Mothers Monument
The Gold Star Mothers Memorial was dedicated at the Texas State Cemetery in 2001. It honors mothers who lost children during service for the United State Military.
Purple Heart Monument
The Purple Heart Monument at the Texas State Cemetery honors all those who were wounded in combat for the United States military.
The Nine Men of Praha Memorial
The Nine Men of Praha Monument honors an entire generation of men from a small Central Texas Czech community who died in World War II between 1944 and 1945.
