YOUNGBLOOD, WYCH J. (1847-1916) ~ Wych J. Youngblood was born in Georgia in 1847. In February 1864, he mustered into Company D of the 26th Mississippi Infantry under J.R. Davis' Brigade. Youngblood fought in the Battle of Wilderness on May 5, 1864, and on May 6, 1864, he was wounded in the battle. His brigade continued to fight at Tally's Mill, Spottsylvania, Hanover Junction, Cold Harbor, Gaines' Mill, Petersburg, Weldon, Fort McRae, Hamner's Run and Jarratt's Station. Youngblood was not able to return to the front lines until the battle of Hatcher's Run on February 6, 1865. After the battle, Youngblood was captured and sent to Petersburgh, Virginia on April 2, 1865 and then was released after the surrender at Appomattox.
Youngblood came to Texas in 1883, and assumedly lived in Jefferson, Texas in Marion County. According to his war record he was married at the time of his enlistment and his death certificate lists him as widowed. There is no census information to be found as of yet.
Youngblood was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home in Austin, Texas on August 9, 1916, and died there of cancer on August 19, 1916. He was interred at the Texas State Cemetery the following day.
