DORRIS, WILLIS STOKES (1838 ~ 1911). Confederate veteran W.S. Dorris was born in Greensboro, Alabama on January 3, 1838.

During the Civil War he belonged to Company E, Waul's Legion. Before joining Waul's Legion, Dorris served six months on Galveston Island. He was in Colonel Timmon's Regiment. He fought at Fort Pemberton and from there moved to Vicksburg. In the Vicksburg Campaign he was wounded three times. His wounds consisted of head injury, an injury to his left side and an injury that caused permanent damage to his wrist. Mr. Dorris was taken prisoner on July 4, 1865 and was paroled on July 9th. After being exchanged, he moved back to Texas.

Dorris originally moved to Texas in 1849, and lived in Milam County. He was a unmarried farmer when he was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home in Austin. He was admitted to the Home twice. The first time was on March 15, 1892, and was later released on May 15, 1895. He was readmitted to the Home on July 12, 1897 where he died January 11, 1911.
