WILLIAM D. ABBEY (1832 ~ 1912) William D. Abbey, Confederate veteran, was born in Louisiana in 1832. Eventually he came to Texas, where he enlisted in the Confederate Army at Tyler, in 1861. He served as a bugler in Captain Douglas' Battery (formerly John J. Goode's Company), Company A, 1st Texas Artillery, until 1865, when his name appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War in Citronelle, Alabama. He was paroled at Gainesville, Alabama, on May 13, 1865.

Abbey, a Presbyterian who never married, made his living as a miner until chronic illness made it impossible for him to support himself. He was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home on February 1, 1897, where he died on January 24, 1924.
