CONDON, WILLIAM (1825-1900) William Condon was a private in the 5th Missouri Infantry Company F. Condon was originally from Ireland but immigrated to Marshall, Missouri. Condon joined the Confederacy at Fort Smith, Arkansas in January of 1862.

From there, the 5th Missouri fought at Iuka on September 19, 1862 and then at Corinth on October 3-4, 1862. The next battle was fought at Vicksburg where they lost and an unconditional surrender was demanded. After being captured on July 4, 1863, the Confederacy organized a prisoner exchange which freed the 5th Missouri Infantry.

Condon then went on to fight in the Atlanta Campaign. It was during this battle that he received a gunshot wound to his right hand which ended his participation in the war.

Condon moved to Texas in 1864 where he resided in Hubbard, Texas. He continued his occupation as a brick mason with his wife. Condon was admitted to the Confederate Home on July 24, 1894 where he lived until he passed away on February 6, 1900.
