MILLER, WILLIAM B. (1823~1894) William Miller was born March 10, 1823, in Mississippi. He married Martha Womack in 1844 in Bedford County, Tennessee. They came to Guadalupe County, Texas in 1854 and Miller worked as a farmer.

During the Civil War, Miller served in Company K, 8th Regiment, Texas Infantry. This unit composed of the 8th Texas Infantry Battalion and Sheas Texas Artillery Battalion and was part of the Trans Mississippi Department under Kirby Smith. They saw action in Texas and Louisiana during the Red River Campaign, in particular, at Mansfield and Pleasant Hill. In July 1864, the regiment had 368 effectives, and at the close of the War they had 294 present. However, only a few of the regiment surrendered on June 2, 1865.

In 1874, the Millers came to Kimble County, Texas, after their son, John and his family moved to the county. According to the Confederate Home roster, Miller was admitted to the Home on March 10, 1894. He died on May 20, 1894, and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
