MCCLOSKEY, WILLIAM A. (1832 ~ 1911). William McCloskey was born in New York City in 1832.

During the Civil War he served in Company G, 7th Louisiana Infantry, Hays' Brigade under General E. Kirby Smith. The seventh Louisiana was also known as "The Pelican Regiment" was organized in May 1861 at Camp Moore. Fought at the First Battle of Manassas, Sharpsburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Cold Harbor, and the Petersburg Siege. "The Pelican Regiment" surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.

McCloskey moved to Texas in 1868 and lived in Galveston, Galveston County where he was a member of the Catholic Church. He was a widowed painter, according to his Confederate Men's Home records.

McCloskey was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home on June 18, 1863 where he died February 21, 1911.
