COOK, WILLIAM A. (1840 ~ 1940). William A. Cook was born on February 24, 1840 in Monroe County, Alabama to Lisbon Cook, of Georgia, and Martha Mindenall.

During the Civil War, Cook fought in company H of the Fourth Arkansas Infantry in Churchill's Brigade of the Tennessee Army. The Army of Tennessee fought many battles including Richmond, Chickamauga, Murfreesboro and Atlanta.

In 1898, Cook moved to Texas and settled in San Angelo where he worked as a farmer. On May 21, 1931, he was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home due to his advanced age.

Cook lived in the Home for nine years until his death on December 11, 1940. He was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
