BLACKWELL, W.W (1820 ~ 1908). Confederate veteran W.W. Blackwell was born in 1820 in Alabama.
During the Civil War he served in Company A, 1st Louisiana Regiment, Blanchard's Brigade in the Army of Northern Virginia. The 1st Louisiana was organized in 1861 around New Orleans. Between September 1864 and the Confederate surrender at Appomattox Court House, the 1st Louisiana was consolidated with the 14th Infantry Regiment.
Blackwell moved to Texas in 1842, and lived in Jonesville, Harrison County where he was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a physician who suffered from old age when he was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home on January 24, 1898.
Blackwell died on September 28, 1908 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
