EWING, THOMAS J. (1839-1900) Not much is known about Thomas Ewing's early life, except that he was born in Louisiana.

Ewing joined the Confederacy on April 12, 1861 and was mustered into the 2nd Texas Infantry Company K . The 2nd Infantry, also known as the Second Texas Sharpshooters, were engaged in several battle including the Battle of Shiloh, Vicksburg and the Siege of Corinth. Ewing was taken prisoner at Vicksburg on Independence Day, 1863 but was paroled on a Parole of Honor.

After the war, Ewing lived in Houston where he worked as a carpenter. Ewing was admitted to the Confederate Home on January 5, 1895 where he stayed until he requested discharge February 25, 1899. Ewing died on January 14, 1900.
