Sue Ginn Bates

BATES, SUE GINN (1850 ~ 1924). Confederate widow Sue Ginn Bates was born on May 18 to J.E. Ginn from Georgia and Cynthia Atison from Franklin City, Georgia.

On October 29, 1876, Sue Ginn married William Marshall Bates in Wood, Texas. W.M. Bates served in the Confederate army, 17th Tennessee Infantry, Company D as Private William M. Baytes.

After William Bates's death on June 14, 1901 in Bell, Texas, she moved to Hyde Park in Travis County. On October 15, 1915 Sue Bates applied for a Widow's pension and later moved into the Confederate Women's Home in Austin, Texas.

She died August 14, 1924 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery the same day.
