LUBBOCK, SARAH ELIZABETH BLACK PORTER (? ~ 1902). Sarah Elizabeth Black Porter Lubbock was born in York District, South Carolina to the Honorable James H. Black, a Congressman from the Pinckney District of South Carolina, and Sarah Elizabeth Logan Black.

Miss Black married Dr. A. A. Porter, a Presbyterian minister in May of 1864. The Porter's arrived in Texas in 1869 where the Doctor became the pastor of the Southern Presbyterian Church of Austin. Dr. Porter served as pastor until his death in December of 1872.

After Dr. Porter's death, Mrs. Porter accepted a teaching position at an all-girls school called Alta Vista. After teaching at Alta Vista for ten years, Mrs. Porter married Ex-Governor, and then State Treasurer, Francis Richard Lubbock. After marrying Lubbock, Mrs. Lubbock quit teaching and worked in many different religious and patriotic groups in Austin.

Mrs. Lubbock also urged her husband to write and publish his memoirs, "Six Decades in Texas, or The Memoirs of F. R. Lubbock." Mrs. Lubbock died at her home in Austin, on Saturday, August 9, 1902 and was buried in the Texas State Cemetery in on August 11, 1902.
