Sara Bryan Amidei
AMIDEI, SARA BRYAN (1937~2026). The following is an obituary for Sara Bryan Amidei, spouse of Maurice Amidei, former appellate court justice. The obituary was provided by Harrell Funeral Home off Austin.
With gratitude for a life well lived and confidence in the promises of God, we celebrate the life of Sara Ann Bryan Amidei, who entered her heavenly home on May 25, 2026, Memorial Day, surrounded by her family who loved her so much.
Sara was born on November 22, 1937, in Waxahachie, Texas, to Andrew J. ("A.J.") Bryan, Jr. and Margaret Francis Buie Bryan of Hillsboro, Texas. A.J. and Margaret instilled in her the values of faith, family, and hard work that would guide her throughout her life.
Sara attended Baylor University, where she continued to develop the intelligence, determination, and independent spirit that would characterize her throughout her life. After turning down more than a few suitors along the way, she met Maurice Eneas Amidei of Fort Worth, Texas-the man who captured her heart. They were married on September 18, 1959, and Maurice remained her beloved husband, faithful partner, and greatest earthly companion for the next 58 years.
Sara was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a fierce defender of her family. Her faith was the foundation of her life, followed closely by her deep and unwavering love for her family. After dedicating many years to rearing her children, she fulfilled a dream she carried, to work for one of the largest companies in the world. She joined Exxon Chemicals as an executive assistant and thrived in a role she truly loved. Ever the lifelong learner, she even became fluent in Spanish along the way. Those who knew her well often joked that she had a special gift for making her bosses think they were in charge, when in reality she was the one keeping everything running smoothly. After a distinguished 25-year career with Exxon, she retired with many cherished friendships, fond memories, and the satisfaction of having achieved a dream that meant a great deal to her.
A proud Texan through and through, Sara had a great passion for politics and never shied away from lively discussion. She found joy in dancing and sailing with Maurice. Curious and creative at heart, she loved playing the piano and singing, painting, good books and movies, and watching snow fall.
Sara never met a person who intimidated her, a reflection of her confident and spirited nature. Her grandchildren fondly remember her "grazing" the squirrels on the bottom with her BB gun to discourage them from destroying her backyard trees, handled with her signature mix of humor, precision, and practicality. She was just as confident with her pistol, a reflection of her steady and fearless personality. Sara adored her dogs and cats, and over the years lovingly rescued and cared for many animals who found a home with her. Known for her sharp wit, spirited personality, and gift for storytelling, she was full of spice and brought life and laughter to every room she entered.
She is survived by her three children, April Dancer (Stuart) of Houston, Texas; Anthony "Tony" Amidei (Beth) of Bentonville, Arkansas; and Angela Dunn (Jonathan) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and by her cherished grandchildren, Rachel Dancer (fiancé Jake), Emily Malloy (Chad), James Dancer (Shelby), Andrew Amidei, Noah Amidei, Joshua Amidei, Hannah Amidei, Jenna Dunn, and Julia Dunn.
Her family and her faith were the guiding lights of Sara's life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
There will be a viewing for Sara in the gallery of the Texas State Cemetery from 10-10:45am on Tuesday, June 9th with a graveside service following at 11am.
