GREEN, SAMUEL F. (1842~1918). Samuel F. Green was born in Mississippi in 1842 and not much is known about him until he entered military service in the cause of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War.

On April 29, 1862, Green enlisted in Capt. George P. Wallace's Company (Attala Guards), 40th Regiment Mississippi Volunteers at Rocky Point, Attala County, Mississippi. The 40th Mississippi Regiment was consolidated with the 3rd and 31st Regiments about April 9, 1865, and formed the 3rd Consolidated Regiment Mississippi Infantry. The 40th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry fought at Iuka and Corinth, then were captured and later paroled at Vicksburg in July 1863. Green finished out the War with the 40th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry, when they surrendered on April 26, 1865.

In 1877, Green moved to Texas and worked as a farmer. He was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home in Austin on May 31, 1909, and was discharged on December 2, 1912. Green was readmitted to the Home on May 1, 1913. He died on July 11, 1918, and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery the next day.
