MOORE, ROBERT (1825-1896) Robert Moore was born in 1825 in Ireland. He came to Texas in 1860. On August 13, 1861, he joined Co. F 1st Texas Heavy Artillery Regiment in Galveston, TX as a private. He stayed in the war until his honorable discharge on July 1, 1865, also at Galveston, TX.

"Co. F 1st Texas Heavy Artillery Regiment was organized at Galveston, TX. The unit served in the Trans-Mississippi department primary at Galveston and along the upper Texas coast. Co. F was stationed at Sabine Pass during September, 1863, and was prominent in the surrender of two federal gunboats, the Sachem and the Clifton. In April, 1864, the company was stationed at Galveston Island with 23 officers and 462 men. In April, 1865, The company had 430 soldiers present for duty. The Regiment was included in the surrender on June 2. It's commanders were Colonel Joseph J. Cook, Lt. Col. John H. Manly, and Major Edward VonHarten".

Robert Moore married Margaret Jane Moore, also from Ireland, on May 1, 1865, in Galveston, TX. They had five children: William T. born in Louisiana in 1863; James A. born in Texas in 1866; Margaret J. born in Texas in 1868; Louis born in Texas in 1870; and John J. born in Texas in 1873.

Robert Moore worked the rest of his years as a stonemason and laborer until his admittance to the Confederate Men's Home in Austin, TX. He is shown as being readmitted June 14, 1894. He stayed at the home until his death on March 15, 1896.
