BREWSTER, MYRA KILPATRICK (1894~1975) Myra Kilpatrick Brewster was born October 12, 1894, in Houston, Texas, to Robert and Grace Dye Kilpatrick of Mississippi. The Kilpatricks lived in Temple, where Myra graduated from high school in 1911. She excelled in tennis and basketball, while attending Baylor University. In 1914, she graduated from Baylor with a diploma in Music.

Myra Kilpatrick married Few Brewster, then a U. S. Army lieutenant stationed in Arkansas. Mrs. Brewster loved travel and laughter, made lasting friendships and had a lifelong enthusiasm for classical piano instruction and performance. She was a founder and president of the Temple Music Club and an active force in the Domestic Science Club, library board and other civic activities. After Judge and Mrs. Brewster moved to Austin, in 1941, she was active in the Presbyterian church, Austin Woman's Club, State Official Ladies Club, American History Club, Wednesday Morning Music Club, Mu Phi Epsilon, Gray Ladies, Daughters of the American Revolution and Austin Symphony's board of directors.

She was recognized for her skill in judging musical auditions when a major annual piano competition awards program was named in her honor. After serving a year as president of the Texas Federation of Music Clubs she was instrumental in developing a lasting published system for program building and course of study for the National Federation of Music Clubs. When a bill was brought to the Texas House of Representatives to drop Texas, Our Texas as the state song and find a new one, she led the citizens' effort to prevent the bill's passage.
