COX, MILTON LOTT (1840 ~ 1898). Milton Lott Cox was born in 1840 in Illinois. His parents were both born in Illinois, but moved to Limestone County, Texas in 1852.

On March 10, 1862, he enlisted in Captain H. H. Malloy's Company, Bass' Regiment, Texas Mounted Volunteers. He mustered into service at Camp Bass, Texas on March 15, 1862. The regiment was dismounted in November 1862 and reduced to a battalion of four companies and designated Johnson's Battalion, 20th Regiment Texas Dismounted Cavalry.

Following the War, he moved back to Limestone County and farmed. Cox married Martha Jane (no maiden name available) who was born in 1857 and she died shortly after the 1880 census. By the 1890s, Cox was a sick man (possibly tuberculosis) and he and his three sons moved to Pearsall, Frio County, because the drier climate was thought to be better for his health. Cox was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home July 17, 1898 where he died December 16th of that same year and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
