Mary E. Spence Bell

BELL, MARY E. SPENCE (1846 ~ 1932). Mary E. Spence Bell a Confederate widow, was born in Texas, circa 1847. While much of her life is undocumented, it is known that she was married to Joseph A. Bell, a Confederate veteran, who moved to Texas in 1852.

After their marriage, they lived in Bellville, Travis County, Texas, until they both went to live in the Texas Confederate Home in Austin on August 29, 1921. After living in the Home for only a year Joseph died on August 27, 1922. Because of his service in the Confederacy and his residency in the Home, he was buried in the Texas State Cemetery.

That next year, on May 15, 1923, Mary moved to the Confederate Women's Home, where she died on April 20, 1932. She was buried next to her husband on the same day.

Information taken from Confederate Home Roster, and the Death Certificate.
