BLACKSTONE, LULA ROSE GRIFFIN. (1854 ~ 1952). Confederate widow Lula Rose Griffin Blackstone was born on July 9, 1854. She was born in Dalton County, Georgia, to Allen Griffin, of South Carolina, and Virginia West, of Virginia. It is believed that Allen Griffin died during the Civil War, and his wife and family moved to Dallas, Texas in the 1870s.

After arriving in Texas she married Confederate veteran John Fuller Blackstone (a Fort Worth native) on October 21, 1879. Together they had six children; three daughters, Winnie Belle (Mrs. C. D. Eva), Nellie (Mrs. Victor B. Lowery), Jennie (Mrs. Louis A. Sanders), and three sons, William K., Charlie E., and Frank Blackstone.

John Blackstone died in Dallas on April 23, 1918. He was buried the next day in the Dallas Confederate Cemetery. Lula successfully applied for John's Confederate Pension for the State of Texas. She started receiving pension funds on April 1, 1941.

On September 7, 1948, Blackstone moved to Austin to live in the Confederate Women's Home. She remained there until her death on February 25, 1952. She was buried in the Texas State Cemetery two days later.
