Lewis Ammons

AMMONS, LOUIS (circa 1820 ~ 1894) Louis Ammons, a private in Company A of the 12th Louisiana Infantry died November 16, 1894 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery. His headstone says he was in Company C of the 12th Louisiana Cavalry, but, to our knowledge, no such regiment exists. The spelling of his name also differs on his headstone versus that found in military rolls of the 12th Louisiana Infantry. Soldiers from Company A of the 12th Louisiana Infantry were from the DeSota, Natchitoches and Sabine areas of Louisiana. We do not know if he was actually born in Louisiana or if that’s just where he was mustered into service in the year 1862. There are no records of Louis Ammons living in the Texas Confederate Men’s Home, nor is there an application for Confederate Pension on file.
