LaNan Hooker McKinney
MCKINNEY, MARTHA LANAN HOOKER (1949 ~ ). Martha LaNan Hooker, spouse of Michael W. "Mike" McKinney, was born in 1949 in McAllen, Texas to Robert Charles Hooker Sr. and Willie Mae Meek Hooker.
She attended McAllen public schools and graduated from McAllen High School in 1967. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Texas at Austin in 1971. She taught senior government classes at Austin High School from 1971 to 1975.
LaNan Hooker married Mike McKinney in 1973 and together they have two children, Wallace Blake McKinney and Lauren Brooke McKinney. Blake McKinney attends the University of Texas Medical School - Houston and Lauren McKinney is a lawyer in Austin.
LaNan McKinney is active in volunteer organizations in Austin and around the state. She has held membership status in the following organizations: Delta Delta Delta Sorority, the Austin Natural Sciences Guild, the Junior Austin women's Club, the Austin Women's Club, the Assistance League of Austin, the Sam Houston Society, the Austin assembly, the Austin Club and the Austin Country Club.
One of McKinney's main interests outside her family and friends is the Governor's Mansion in Austin. She is a Past President and Member of the Board for the Docents of the Governor's Mansion. She has been the President of the Board, Vice President, Member of the Executive Committee, Chair of the Development Committee and Member of the Finance Committee for the Friends of the Governor's Mansion.
In addition to volunteering for civic organizations; McKinney is interested in painting, studying foreign languages (she is fluent in French and Spanish) and traveling as well as assisting her husband in his duties as head of a statewide trade association and lobbying organization.
