Born in Raymondville, Texas, on April 25, 1949, Kenny attended Raymondville schools and was a Raymondville High School graduate of 1967. Kenny's integrity, work ethic, intelligence, and kind spirit earned the respect of many throughout his life. His avid love of golf began as a child when he learned golf from his father; he went on to letter in golf in high school. His senior year he was voted Senior Class President, Best All Around Student, and Citizen of the Year. Following high school, he was graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Sam Houston State University, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order.
Upon graduation, he returned to Raymondville to join his father in Brown-Haynes, Inc., a Chrysler franchise selling and servicing Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth products for Willacy County and surrounding areas. It would soon become a father-son, father-son dealership along with his father's partner, Bert Brown, when Bert's son, Mark, joined the dealership in 1974.On August 3, 1974, Kenny married his high school sweetheart, Carla Lynn Conley. Their love for each other began his senior year of high school and Carla's freshman year. Upon her spring 1974 graduation from Southern Methodist University, they married and made their home in Raymondville. The subsequent births of their two daughters were their greatest joys, and the love they shared as a family made them strong and resilient.
In January of 1981, Kenny purchased the Brown-Haynes, Inc. dealership, becoming the Dealer Principal and President. In the fall of 1992, he acquired the Jeep franchise, making his dealership the only complete full-line Chrysler outlet in the Valley at the time. During these years, Brown-Haynes, Inc. excelled by earning Chrysler Corporation's top dealership award, the Award for Excellence and Five Star Service Award numerous times. Brown-Haynes, Inc. received the #1 Chrysler-Plymouth Market Penetration Leader Award in the Houston Zone in 1984. Kenny also received the United States Small Business Administration's Businessman of the Year award.
Chrysler-sponsored trips enabled Carla and Kenny and their daughters to travel the world. Beginning with their honeymoon trip to San Francisco to attend the Chrysler Corporation's New Car Showing, Kenny and Carla regularly attended the annual meetings. It was in Reno, Nevada, in 1997, they learned that the future of smaller-franchised dealers was either to acquire additional dealerships or be acquired. In 1999, Kenny and Carla sold their dealership to Jeff Kellogg and Richard Welch of the Kellogg Dealer Group. Kenny continued on with the Kellogg Dealerships. When the Kellogg Dealer Group was purchased by the Gillman Automotive Group, Kenny continued his affiliation with the car business, working directly with Managing Partner Scott Dupons.
Kenny was a past Director of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership, having served as Vice-president during the 1970's, 1980's, and 1990's. He served on the Raymondville First United Methodist Church's Administrative Board, Harlingen Country Club's Board of Directors, the Willacy County Industrial Foundation Board, the Cameron and Willacy Counties Heart Association Board, and the Valley Land Fund Advisory Board.
He served on the University of Texas Parents' Association Board and the Valley Baptist Health System Foundation Board. He was a Director of the Harlingen Country Club's Life Begins at Forty annual golf tournament and served as its President for two years.
Kenny loved most sharing time with his beloved wife, Carla, rearing his two beautiful daughters and experiencing the delight of his twin grandchildren. He will be missed beyond any measure by his family and many treasured friends who will carry him in their hearts for the rest of their lives.
