MANFORD, JOYCE PRICE (1918 ~ 1992). Joyce Price was born on April 28, 1918 in Georgetown, Texas to William Louis Price and Joyce Amy Johnson Price. After graduating from Southwestern University, where she was active in the college glee club and Delta Delta Delta sorority and chosen Miss Southwestern, she taught school in Austin and Smithville.
After her marriage to Thomas Durwood Manford, Jr., they lived in Smiley. Mr. Manford came from a pioneer Gonzales County family. Mrs. Manford was an invaluable partner in her husband's career which included serveral terms in the Texas House of Representatives and his appointment to various state boards.
She was an active member of the University United Methodist Church and its Fellowship Forum Class, former president of the State Official Ladies' Club, member of the Austin Lawyers' Wives Club, member of the Settlement Club, member of the State Legislative Wives' Club, member of the alumnae group of Delta Delta Delta and member of the President's Council of Southwestern University. She died in Austin on September 18, 1992 and was buried beside her husband at the Texas State Cemetery.
