CONDON, JOHN G. (1843-1895) John Condon, also knows as Edward Condon, was born in Ireland in 1843. He immigrated to Louisiana and on June 7, 1861 was mustered into the 7th Louisiana Infantry Regiment Company C, also known as the Pelican Regiment, at Camp Moore. Condon was one of 331 men who were born in Ireland and a part of this regiment.

The 7th Louisiana was sent to Virginia and fought in the skirmish at Blackburn’s Ford on July 17, 1861 on its way to fight at The First Battle of Manassas on July 21, 1861. Condon was injured with a gun shot to his right foot and was discharged from service on July 19, 1862.

Condon moved to Texas in 1868 where he resided in Austin. He resumed his career of painting, which he carried out until his admittance to the Confederate Home on August 11, 1893. He spent the rest of his years in the home until his death on May 6, 1895 at the age of 55.
