ENSEY, JOHN D (1842-1927) J.D. Ensey was born in Coffee County Tennessee in 1842. Not much of his early life is known until he joined the Confederate Cavalry on March 31, 1862. Ensey was mustered into the 19th Texas Cavalry Company F, also known as Burford's Regiment.

During the war Ensey was engaged at Prairie Grove on December 7, 1862. The 19th Texas Cavalry was then sent to Missouri on an expedition. Ensey was engaged again in April of 1863 in a skirmish at Taylor's Creek. He served until the surrender of the Confederacy.

After the war, Ensey lived in Mineral Wells as a farmer. He was admitted to the Confederate Home September 19, 1927 and died November 6, 1927 of pneumonia. Ensey was a widower and was survived by George W. Ensey.
