THOMPSON, JAMES (1831 ~ 1913). Confederate veteran James Thompson was born in Scotland in 1831.

During the Civil War he served in Company K, 8th Texas Cavalry, Harrison's Brigade. The 8th was also known as Terry's Texas Rangers and was organized in September of 1861 at Houston. They fought at Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, the Atlanta Campaign, and Bentonville. They were surrendered at Durham Station, Orange County, North Carolina on April 26, 1865 by General Joseph E. Johnston.

Thompson moved to Texas in 1854 and lived in Eastland County where he was a Christian. He was a widowed merchant before he was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home on February 12, 1906. He died at the Home on September 3, 1913.
