James Loraine Dallas

DALLAS, JAMES LORAINE (1818~1883) James Loraine (Lorraine) Dallas, Republic of Texas Veteran, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 18, 1818, to James Loraine and Elizabeth (Reid) Dallas.

The Dallas family, along with James' older brother, Walter Riddle, came to Texas in 1833, and settled in Washington County. Dallas married Mary Virginia Cooper on October 16, 1841.

Dallas and his brother, Walter, both served for the Republic of Texas. Walter fought at the Battle of San Jacinto, while James' service is unknown.

James died in Washington County on March 18, 1883. His and his wife's bodies were moved to the Texas State Cemetery during Texas Centennial celebration.
