ADAMS, J. R. (1840~1910). J. R. Adams, Confederate veteran, was born in Wabash County, Indiana in 1840. In 1854, he moved to Terrell, Texas in Kaufman County, where he worked as a farmer. When the Civil War broke out, Adams enlisted in Company H of the 13th Texas Dismounted Cavalry. After the War in May or June of 1865, he returned to farming in Terrell until 1905 when he moved to Bowie, Texas in Montague County. On July 7, 1910, possibly after his wife's death, Adams moved to Austin to the Confederate Men's Home. He died six days later, on July 13, 1910, and was buried the next day in the Texas State Cemetery.
