STRICKLAND, HELEN (1840 ~ 1926). Confederate widow Helen Strickland was born in Shelby County, Texas on March 8th, 1840, to David Strickland of Kentucky and Rachel McKeny of Missouri.

She was married to a Mr. King before her marriage to Confederate veteran James Jessie Strickland of Vernon Parish, Louisiana, on September 4th, 1881, in Travis County, Texas. They had two known daughters, Mary and Nancy Strickland.

She lived at the Confederate Women's Home in Austin, Texas for approximately nine years. She died at the Home on March 17th, 1926 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery a short time later.
