Helen L. Garcia Luna

LUNA, HELEN LETICIA GARCIA (1933 ~ 2018). The following is an obituary for Helen Leticia Luna, spouse of former Senator Gregory Luna. The obituary was provided by Angelus Funeral Home of San Antonio.

Helen Leticia Luna passed away Wednesday evening, January 3rd, surrounded by family. She was born September 24, 1932 in San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1950. In 1955 she married Gregory Luna. They were married for forty four years until his passing in 1999. During that time, Helen raised four children while her husband worked first as a police officer in San Antonio and then later as an attorney. Because of her dedication to raising her children, Gregory was afforded the time necessary to continue his college and law school education. After all the children graduated high school and left the house, she supported Gregory in his political endeavors to represent the people first in the Texas House of Representatives and then later in the Texas Senate. During this time, Helen was active in political and social groups and remained so late in her life. She was honored by Gregory Luna Middle School when they named the National Junior Honor Society after her.

She will be remembered for many things. All living things thrived around her. Her children, grandchildren, other relatives, pets and plants were all attracted to her calm, happy and positive disposition. She will be remembered for being selfless, always putting the needs of others before hers. Of her many skills she will be remembered best for her culinary skills. Every meal she prepared for her family was the best meal. None of which could be replicated by any other.

She is survived by her daughters Leticia Ann Luna and Delores Luna (Gregory Charles) Ellis, sons Gerard Luna and Gregory Val Luna, grandchildren Ariana Stern Luna, Sara Ellis, Sophie Ellis and Gregory Eli Luna. She joins her husband Gregory and mother Dolores Flores in eternal rest.
