Not very much is known about George W. Baty. He joined the 20th Regiment, Texas Infantry in the summer of 1862 at the age of 35, and was assigned to Company I. The 20th Regiment was comprised almost entirely of middle aged men and was assigned to the Trans-Mississippi Department. It served along the Texas coast from Galveston to the Sabine River until the surrender On June 2, 1865. Baty was from Austin and returned after the surrender where he died in 1908 at the age of 81, he was a resident of the Confederate Men's Home.
