George R. Ross

ROSS, GEORGE R. (1842~1918) George R. Ross, Confederate veteran, was born in Maryland in 1842. He enlisted in the Confederate Army on November 8, 1862 and was mustered into Company B of the 11th Virginia Infantry.

Following the War, Ross and his family moved to Texas in 1877, and eventually settled in Waco, McLennan County, where he worked as a laborer. In 1904, Ross applied for a Confederate Pension from the State of Texas, but did receive it until 1906.

Following his wife's death, Ross moved to Austin to live in the Confederate Men's Home on August 11, 1914. He remained there until his death on November 12, 1918. He was buried at the Texas State Cemetery the next day.

The only correspondent Mr. Ross listed on his Confederate Home Roster was possibly a son, A. F. Ross, who was living in Fulton, Missouri.
