WILKEY, GEORGE A. (1830~1910) George A. Wilkey was born in Pennsylvania in 1830. During the Civil War he served in Company G, Cook's Heavy Artillery. Cook's Artillery was also known as the 3rd Texas Artillery Battalion. The 3rd was organized in June of 1861. They were assigned to the defense of Galveston and were later transferred to the 1st Texas Artillery Regiment. The 1st was taked with defending a stretcch of land along the Texas Coast from the Sabine Pass to Velasco.
Wilkey came to Texas in 1835 and lived in Harris County. He was a widowed farmer before he was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home on June 14, 1892. He died there May 2, 1910.
