STROHMER, FRANK (1839 ~ 1909). Confederate veteran Frank Strohmer was born in 1839 in Germany.

During the Civil War he served in Company B, 4th Texas Infantry, Hood's Brigade. Strohmer enlisted in Confederate service on July 11, 1861 at Camp Clark, Texas.

The 4th was organized in September 1861. The 4th fought at Malvern Hill, 2nd Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg Siege. The 4th surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia on April 9, 1865. Strohmer was captured at Chickamauga on September 18, 1863 and was kept as a prisoner of war in Louisville, Kentucky. He was released after the War on June 14, 1865.

Strohmer moved to Texas in 1858 and lived in Travis Peak, Travis County, Texas. He was a widowed farmer before he was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home at Austin on January 1, 1907. He died at the Home on August 20, 1909 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery a short time later.
