GREEN Jr., FORREST (1921 ~ 2011). The following is an obituary for Forrest Green Jr., former member of the Texas House of Representatives. The obituary was provided by Corley Funeral Home of Corsicana.

Forrest Green left on January 8, 2011, to give an accounting to the Lord for his 89 years on earth. Born in Freestone County, reared in Arlington, Texas, he had resided in Navarro County since 1964, on his ranch west of Emhouse, Texas.

A lifelong bachelor, he will be buried next to his mother, Pauline Green Brandt in the family plot in Arlington. He is survived by his sister, Paula Green Moore, and a nephew, Hugh M. Moore, both of Arlington.

WWII ended his higher education after two years of college studying Aero Engineering which fit well in his duties as a fighter pilot. He became a decorated officer serving a tour of duty in China under Gen. Chenault’s “Flying Tigers”. He rose to the rank of Major in the Air Force. Forrest was fond of saying that if a man can love inanimate objects, he loved the P-38 Lightning and the Model A Ford.

He started work after the war for the US Post Office for more than a decade, with the last 5 years as a Postal inspector. Next, he worked briefly for Bell Helicopter before moving his Tree Brand Ranch from Arlington to Navarro County, where he variously Chaired the County Beef Committee, the Federal Land Bank, and the Navarro Historical Commission.

In response to political scandals in the Texas Legislature, he ran for said body and was elected 4 times as the Representative for Ellis & Navarro County from 1973-1980. He was appointed Chairman of the Agriculture and Livestock Committee for the 66th Session, thereafter he chose to retire, refusing to become a career politician.

He enjoyed his service with the Navarro College Foundation Board making numerous gifts to the College, and local museums on campus. A published autobiography of his life is on file in the genealogy section of the Corsicana Public Library and at the Fielder Museum in Arlington.

Services will be at Corley Funeral Home this Thursday at 11:00AM, with Rev. Otis Conner and Rev. Gary Johnson officiating, with a brief graveside service at 3:00PM at Parkdale Cemetery in Arlington. Pallbearers are Oliver Albritton, Bobby Armstrong, Mike Gage, Jim Howard, Oran Howell, Robert Keathley, Kelly Matthews, and Wayne Nelson. Honorary Pallbearers are Members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Navarro College Foundation Board, Dr. C. David Campbell, Dr. J. D. Carroll, and Dr. Ray D. Carrol.
