ELY, E.C. (1833 ~ 1896) Confederate veteran Elias Ely was born in 1833. He was born in Georgia, but his exact date of birth and birthplace are unknown.

He joined the Confederate Army on May 17, 1861 at Madison, Mississippi. He was assigned to Company A of the 1st Mississippi Cavalry as a Private. He served for one year before being discharged February 17, 1862, citing a "disability."

He moved to Texas shortly after the Civil War to become a farmer, although where exactly he moved to is also unknown. He was moved to the Confederate Men's Home in Austin late in his life and died August 14, 1896. Ely was buried at the Texas State Cemetery some time later.
