E. A. Swann

SWANN, E. A. (1826~1893) E. A. Swann, Confederate veteran, was born in Alabama on December 31, 1826. Upon coming to Texas in 1854, Swann settled in Caldwell County, where on May 27, 1863, he enlisted in the Confederacy. Shortly after enlisting, on June 26, 1863, Swann was turned over to Captain Krumbhaar's Company of the Texas Light Artillery by the adjutant of the conscription camp, or boot camp, in Austin. After being released from boot camp, Swann became the company cook. On August 22, 1863, he was left in the hospital in Warren, Texas, where no information was given as to why he was in the hospital.

It appears that the hospital stay in Warren was the end of Swann's military career. No other information was contained in his official records.

After the war, Swann became a farmer and settled in Hill County, Texas. On June 2, 1890, he was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home in Austin, where he lived until his death on May 19, 1893. With no information given for a family, Swann was buried in the Texas State Cemetery.

Information taken from Compiled Military Service Record and Confederate Home Roster.
