VANCE, DOROTHY MCDADE (1909 ~ 1997). The following is an obituary for Dorothy McDade Vance, spouse of Marvin S. Vance, former member of the Texas State Board of Corrections. She died December 30, 1997 and her obituary was published in the Austin American-Statesman on January 2, 1998.

"Dorothy McDade Vance of Austin, died Tuesday.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 1998 at the First United Methodist Church Chapel with the Dr. Don Benton officiating. The family will receive friends at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday.

Dorothy was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Austin and she loved cats.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Marvin S. Vance. The family of Dorothy McDade Vance were some of the original settlers of Texas, her great-great grandfather founded Hempstead.

She is survived by her niece, Mrs. Edward M. Tighe; nephew, Rodgers P. Brown; great-nephew, Edward M. Tighe Jr. and wife, Patsy; James Rodgers Tighe and wife, Brenda, and their sons, Preston and Logan.
