GONZALEZ, DORA CHAMPION (1940 ~ ). The following is a biography for Dora Champion Gonzalez, spouse of retired Texas Supreme Court Justice Raul A. Gonzalez. The biography was provided by the Gonzalez family.
"Dora Champion Gonzalez was born and reared in Progreso, Texas. Dora was a descendant of the original Spanish land grant settlers in the lower Rio Grande Valley, the Balli Family of South Padre Island. Padre Balli, for whom Padre Island is named, was a great uncle. Dora, the wife of Retired Supreme Court Justice, Raul A. Gonzalez was the mother of four children. She attended Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, and she earned her PH.T. (Putting Hubby Through) from the University of Houston Law School. Mrs. Gonzalez was actively involved in ministry in St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church as a Eucharistic minister, hospital ministry, and with her husband, marriage preparation programs. She along with her husband, presented many talks at retreats on the Sacrament of Matrimony, and were also a presenting team with World Wide Marriage Encounter, where they held many leadership positions. They also presented weekends all over the United States, and in Brazil and Bolivia. Dora also served as President of the Cameron County Bar Association Auxiliary, was a member of the Texas Lawyers Auxiliary, the Austin Lawyers Auxiliary, and was a Bible Study leader for many years."
