CAVNESS, DONALD WORD (1928 ~ 1994). Donald Word Cavness was born on April 22, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born to Addie Elizabeth Word and Hubert Cavness.
He served in the U. S. Marines Corp. and was a 1951 honor graduate of The University of Texas. He played baseball on the 1949 and 1950 Longhorn Baseball Team which won the national championship. He was a Texas Legislator representing Travis County from 1962-1973.
He was actively involved in Hyde Park Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and was past chairman and a teacher of the Adult Men's Bible Class for many years. He was on the Board of the Children Shelter and Assessment Center, was a board member of Westminster Manor for over 20 years, was Vice President of the Grand Jury Association, and served with other civic and professional associations. He died on Feb. 16, 1994, in Austin, Texas.
He was survived by his wife, Nelle Cavness; son, Randy Cavness and wife Sally; daughters, Susan and husband, O. S. Hawkins and Carolyn St. John; mother, Addie Word Cavness; brothers, Joe and Bill Cavness; sister, Carol Walker; five grandchildren; and many other relatives. He was married to Doris Wynell Ray.
