BOONE, DANIEL THALES BEYA (1826-1910) Daniel Thales Beya Boone, descendant and namesake of the famed frontiersman, was born September 24, 1826 in Davidson County, Tennessee to Dr. James Monroe Boone and Sophia Smith. The family moved to Arkansas in 1830, where James was a successful doctor, politician and plantation owner and was murdered in 1856 by some of his former slaves. Daniel chose to become a farmer and, while in Arkansas, married the former Anna Eliza Hayden Trammell and fathered nine children.

The family moved to Lamar County, Texas at the outbreak of the Civil War where Daniel volunteered for numerous Confederate units, most notably Walter E Mann?s cavalry. While Daniel was uninjured in battle, he had one brother, Benjamin, killed at the Battle of Prairie Grove and a second, Lafayette, crippled in the same battle.

After the war, Daniel and his family moved to Baylor County where Anna died. Daniel then moved to Knox County before eventually being admitted to the Confederate Men?s Home in Austin approximately 30 years later in 1910. He died 15 days after admission ? August 28, 1910 ? and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
