Carmen Boog Gossett

GOSSETT, CARMEN MARGARET "BOOG" (1929 ~ 2025). The following is an obituary for Carmen Gossett, spouse of former Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety Leo Gossett. The obituary was provided by Beck Funeral Home of Austin.

Carmen Margaret Boog Gossett peacefully passed away on April 16, 2025, in Cedar Park, Texas. She was born on October 30,1929, the fourth of five happy, rambunctious children born to A.J. “Foncie” and Ethel Boog in D’Hanis, Texas. She grew up in San Antonio, graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and attended Trinity University. She was married to her beloved husband, Leo Earl Gossett, on January 15, 1949. Together, with their five children, they moved to many locations as Leo pursued his career with the D.P.S., finally settling in Austin in 1968. Carmen loved her life as a homemaker and caregiver to her large family. She had many hobbies; her favorite was playing bridge. She served six year terms on the advisory boards of the Downtown YWCA and the D.P.S. Historical Museum. She served on a Grand Jury, volunteered at Shoal Creek Hospital, and was a long-time member of the Ro-Anns, wives of Rotarians. She was a devoted member of Hyde Park Baptist Church for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents, her dearly loved husband, her precious sons Patrick and Larry, and all her siblings and their spouses. She is survived by her children Richard (Marlo) Gossett, Janet (Randall) Childers, Gary (Kathy) Gossett and daughter-in-law, Julie Gossett. She has six beloved grandchildren and seven adorable great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
