HALL, BERTIE LEE (1926 - 1999) Bertie Lee "Bert" Hall, state representative, was born in Rio Vista, Texas, on December 30, 1926, to Henry Floyd and Alma (McNear) Hall. After his graduation from Rio Vista High School, Hall volunteered for the Army Air Force in 1945. He served in Germany with the United States Army of Occupational Force after WWII. Following his military service, Hall attended North Texas State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing.
Bert Hall was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1954. He served during the 52nd and 53rd Legislatures. He was elected the Poet Laureate during his two terms as a House member. Hall was the sponsor of legislation that created the Texas Commission on Alcoholism, now known as the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
After his service in the House of Representatives, Hall worked for the Texas Department of Health, where he became the Director of General Services and served as the Liaison to the Legislature. He retired as Director of Special Projects after 20 years.
After retirement he was active as a storyteller, actor, speaker and writer. He performed in the Round Rock Sesquicentennial production of "We're All Texans Now" and presented a one-man show of selected works by Robert Service and other favorite writers. Bert Hall was a founding member of St. Richard's Episcopal Church in Round Rock, Texas and a member of the Trojan Fraternity at North Texas State University. In 1951, he joined the Mason's Nolan River Lodge #453 and was a member of the Round Rock Masonic Lodge #227. He was married to Mrs. Linda Puntenney Hall and was the father of three children.
