Bernice Ruth Johnson

JOHNSON, BERNICE RUTH (1916~1983) Bernice Johnson was born December 31, 1916 in Manor, Texas to Carl E. Johnson and Florence H. Ekdahl. She was a graduate of Austin High School and graduated from Seton School of Nursing and began a career in private nursing. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing Education. Following graduation, she taught at Seton School of Nursing until 1947. She was a member of the Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas and served as Secretary-Treasurer of that organization until 1970. She was the first woman disability examiner for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission. She was past President of Seton Alumni Association; member of Zonta; appointed by President Johnson as the Texas member of the Defense Advisory Committee of Women in Service; member of Austin Woman's Club; Austin Retired Military Officers Association; and member of First United Methodist Church. Ms. Johnson died on December 12, 1983 in Austin.
