WADE, BENJAMIN SOLOMON (1837~1909) Benjamin Solomon Wade was born in Georgia in 1837. During the Civil War he served in Company C, 1st Alabama Infantry, Gladden?s Brigade, Polk?s Division. The 1st was organized around Pensacola in early spring 1861. The men were recruited from Barbour, Lowndes, Macon, Pike, Talladega, Tallapoosa, and Wilcox counties. The regiment fought at Island No. 10, Corinth, Port Hudson, Kenesaw Mountain, Franklin, and Nashville. In the fall of 1863 the regiment was under the command of General Joseph E. Johnston, and during 1864 the 1st were being led into battle by General John Bell Hood. The 1st Alabama Infantry surrendered at Goldsboro.

Wade came to Texas in 1884 and lived in Waller County where he was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a carpenter who suffered from gun shot wounds. He was admitted twice to the Confederate Men?s Home. The first time was on October 1, 1903 and was released at his request on June 2, 1906. He was readmitted on October 5, 1907 where he died January 26, 1909.
